Introduction
Ruimte runs terminals, AI chats, browsers and devices side by side on a canvas. You see which agent works, which one is done and which one waits for you.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Machine | The computer that runs your terminals, agents and browsers. The desktop app runs one on your computer. You can add others, such as a server, to your account. |
| Project | A folder you work in. Ruimte adds a .ruimte folder to it the first time you open it. |
| View | One page of a project, listed in the sidebar, such as a canvas, a terminal, a chat, a browser, a file, a drawing or a diagram. |
| Canvas | A view that holds nodes side by side. Lines between nodes give an agent context. |
| Node | One thing on a canvas, such as a terminal, a chat, a browser, a note, a file, a device or a group. |
| Session | What runs in a terminal or chat. It runs on the machine, so it keeps running when you close the window. |
| Agent | A coding CLI on your machine, such as Claude Code or Codex. You run it in a terminal or in an AI chat. |
What keeps running
Closing a window ends nothing, and neither does a lost connection. When you open the project again, every terminal shows its scrollback and every chat its thread.
Terminals and agents stop when you close the project in the last window or device that has it open. The project then moves to Recent on the start screen.
What goes in git
The .ruimte folder holds the views you share with your team. Commit it. Your private views sit in .ruimte/private, which Ruimte keeps out of git.
Next steps
- Install Ruimte and open a project.
