Launches
Launches are a project's commands, such as a dev server or a test suite. You start one with a key, and an agent can start the ones you approved.
Kinds of launch
| Kind | What it is |
|---|---|
| Service | Keeps running, like a web server. With an address, it counts as running once that port answers. |
| Task | Runs until done, like the tests or a build. |
| Group | Starts the launches you check together. |
Add a launch
- Run Edit launches… from the command palette.
- Fill in the name, kind, command, folder and environment. A service can have an address.
- Click Save. Saving approves the command on this machine.
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Launch when the project opens | Starts the launch when you open the project, once approved on this machine |
| Share with team | Saves the launch in the project file your team commits |
| Secret, kept on this machine | Keeps an environment variable's value on your machine, out of every project file |
Import launches
Ruimte finds the scripts in package.json and composer.json, and run configurations. Under Found in project, click Review and import… and pick the ones you want. Imported launches ask for approval on their first run.
Run and stop
The Launches panel, in the rail, lists every launch with its state and output.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| CtrlAltR | Run the chosen launch |
| CtrlAlt. | Stop it |
If another launch holds a service's port, Stop and launch stops that one first. Force stop ends a launch that does not stop.
Approval
A command from a project file runs on your machine only after you approve it. The first run shows Run a command from the project file? with the command, folder and environment. Click Launch to approve and run it.
An approval holds while the launch stays the same. When its command, folder or environment changes, for example after git pull, it asks again.
An agent that needs a secret for a launch, such as an API key, asks for it in a card in its chat. Type the value and click Save. Only the launch gets the value, never the agent.
Run a task after a worktree chat
In the launches menu in the rail, After a worktree chat finishes picks one task, such as the tests. It runs in a chat's worktree each time that chat ends a turn with nothing left running. Choosing the task approves it for this project's worktrees. The chat gets a note with the result; the run does not wake it.
